Whoosh! A Musical Moon Adventure and A New Creative Resource for Teachers

Blast off into a world of music, movement, imagination and discovery with our brand-new Whoosh! Teacher Resource Booklet!

We're excited to share our latest creative learning resource, developed to accompany Whoosh! A Musical Moon Adventure for Curious Explorers, our interactive musical theatre experience for young children.

Created by LW Arts CIC and BeatFeet Drumming Workshops, with support from Arts Council England, Whoosh! takes children on a magical journey through space, bringing together live drumming, the beautiful sounds of the West African kora, puppetry, storytelling and sensory exploration.

Alongside Luna, Nova and Moon, children become part of an exciting adventure to collect lost moon dust and help the Moon shine again. Along the way, they discover the importance of friendship, teamwork, creativity and working together.

Now, the adventure can continue in the classroom!

A Creative Resource Packed with Activities

Our new 38-page Teacher Resource Booklet is full of imaginative, practical activities designed especially for Early Years and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) settings.

Whether you're looking for a lively music session, a calming sensory activity or an imaginative movement adventure, the booklet offers plenty of inspiration to bring creativity into everyday learning.

Inside, teachers will discover:

  • Music and rhythm activities: Explore steady beats, call-and-response, group drumming, listening games and soundscapes. Children can become musical leaders, communicate through rhythm and create their own sounds.

  • Creative movement and dance: Float through space, blast off in a rocket, explore a watery lagoon and bounce across the Moon through guided movement activities.

  • Sensory exploration: Discover new ways of learning through sound, light, fabric, movement and tactile materials, encouraging curiosity and playful exploration.

  • Wellbeing and relaxation: Gentle rhythms, breathing exercises, yoga-inspired movement and calming activities encourage children to explore their feelings, develop body awareness and find moments of calm.

  • Creative classroom activities: Enjoy space-themed colouring, word searches, story sequencing cards, designing a rocket ship, creating a new Moon and much more!

The booklet includes eight themed music and movement lesson plans, alongside additional creative activities that can be used independently or incorporated into a wider classroom project.

Learning Through Music, Movement and Play

At LW Arts CIC we believe creativity is an important part of how children learn, communicate and connect with the world around them.

Music and movement provide opportunities for children to express themselves in different ways, particularly when spoken language may not be their preferred form of communication.

Throughout the booklet, activities encourage children to listen, take turns, explore their imagination, build confidence and experience the enjoyment of creating something together.

From leading a rhythm game with the mischievous Moon Mice to creating a soundscape for the sleeping Snore Monster, every activity invites children to contribute in their own way.

Inclusive, Adaptable and Easy to Use

Inclusion is at the heart of Whoosh!

The resource has been developed with Early Years and SEND practitioners in mind, recognising that children experience and engage with the world differently.

Activities can be adapted for different abilities, communication styles, sensory preferences and attention spans. Children can participate through movement, sound, gesture, observation or simply by exploring materials at their own pace.

The lesson plans include clear step-by-step instructions, suggested timings, teaching tips and links to the Early Years Foundation Stage, Development Matters, the Engagement Model and National Curriculum learning.

Teachers can follow a complete session or choose individual activities to complement their existing teaching.

There is no need to be a musician or dancer to get involved. Just bring your imagination, a little curiosity and a willingness to explore alongside the children!

Keeping the Whoosh! Adventure Alive

Whoosh! is about more than a journey to the Moon. It's about discovering what happens when we listen to one another, share ideas and create together.

Our hope is that this resource will give teachers new ideas, confidence and inspiration to bring music, movement and creative exploration into their classrooms.

Whether children have already experienced the Whoosh! performance or are discovering the adventure for the first time, there's a whole universe of activities waiting to be explored.
